Streamlining operations at Australia Post's Dandenong mail sorting facility

The Dandenong Letter Centre in South East Melbourne is one of Australia Post's specialised letter handling centres equipped with technology to automate address reading, letter sorting and handling. The centre processes an average of 6.5 million mail units per day of which 3.8 million units go through their barcode sort [BCS] system. While it had installed state of the art optical letter recognition and barcoding technologies, the system was not achieving optimal results. Istari Systems Ltd was a key provider in a project to develop an automated barcode scan system based on the programmable operating system of Intermec's PF2i printers.
